Music for Change - Inspiring Music Documentaries

While Ken and I are cooking up new DocuTunes episodes, I thought I might talk about a few music documentary projects that have been brought to my attention and share them with you.

Michael Franti
This guy completely gets the power of the synthesis between great music and powerful social message. Check out his FrantiTV videos and this trailer for his film, “I Know I’m Not Alone“:

Playing For Change
I love the concept of this project. Filmmakers recorded/filmed musicians around the world adding each adding their own musical ingredient to a collaborative version of Ben E. King’s classic “Stand By Me”. To learn more about this project, click here.

Young at Heart
If this movie comes to a theater near you, go and see it. It was a tear-jerker, but it was also hilarious. I love when a documentary brings out this range of emotion.  I was afraid seeing elderly people sing rock songs in a choir would be a one-trick pony that wouldn’t sustain my interest for a whole film, and I was so wrong. Hearing the re-rendering of these classic songs deepened their meaning. The characters inspired me. While the trailer will give you a sense of the plot of the story, it doesn’t even get close to illustrating the emotion, inspiration, and life in this film.
