March 6th, 2008 — Musician of the Week
It is only fitting that David Saw be this week’s Musician of the Week because 1) a couple of our loyal readers suggested him, 2) he is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter and 3) just this week he released a KILLER album “Broken Down Figure” that you’ve GOT to check out.

Don’t be fooled by the title - the work is as uplifting and fun as it is introspective. There is really something for everyone in the thoughtful lyrics, haunting melodies, and toe-tapping, irresistible collection of songs that feel like instant timeless classics. If you choose to download his songs from iTunes, there is no need to cherry-pick tracks. It’s well worth the complete download, as each song is an accomplishment unto itself.
I was privileged to hear this album in its early stages, because my husband and I met David about 3 years ago, when he first arrived on Martha’s Vineyard to work on some musical projects with my cousin, Ben Taylor. Over the years, Ken and I have been filming David recording, performing, and working with Ben as well as Ben’s mom Carly Simon, who is also a fan of David’s music. She even recorded the first song David ever penned on her last album, “Into White”. When you have that level of endorsement, you know you’re on the right track.
The video above is just a small sample of what we shot. We’ll be releasing a DVD of these great moments we’ve captured with David coming soon, so keep your ear to the ground. In the meantime, you can buy Broken Down Figure here.
February 13th, 2008 — Musician of the Week
Here it is, as promised . . .the unveiling of our very first DocuTunes “Musician of the Week” (insert drum roll here . . . ) Kate Taylor. In this video, Kate records her rendition of “Crying in the Rain” at the home studio of her nephew, and fellow musician Ben Taylor. Ben and singer/songwriter David Saw also accompany Kate on guitar. This video actually comes from the DocuTunes vault, and was shot/edited by my husband Ken and I on Martha’s Vineyard. We were happy that it was the most recommended video contender this week by you.
Every Thursday we’re posting a new great music-related video, and we need your help traveling the web far and wide to come up with suggestions! Keep us posted on what you think is great by posting the URL of your favorite video in the comments section below. If you’re a stumbler, please consider giving us a thumbs up so we can get more people in the mix to weigh in
February 6th, 2008 — Musician of the Week
One of my favorite things to do while surfing the net is to check out what good home-grown talent is rising to the surface on YouTube and other user generated video sites. The internet is creating an opportunity to democratize music like we’ve never seen before. With this in mind, DocuTunes is launching “DocuTunes Musician of the Week”. We’re asking you to post links below in the comments section to your favorite music related videos you’ve come across while poking around online. Feel free to submit whatever moves you, from the absurd to the sublime, the young musician singing into their webcam to the slick music video. Every week, we’ll pick a winner, and profile their video on the blog. The first winner will be announced on February 14th, 2008.
